The moment you get a hang of how the drifting mechanics work in CTR compared to, say, Mario Kart, the game will just completely open up for you (as it did for me).If you would like to schedule an AMA on /r/pcgaming please send us a message via modmail. Even so, I still think there’s tons to enjoy about the game. It’s true that the core excitement of the game for me was chasing the Grand Prix rewards before the next one started the following month, learning the brand new tracks and trying to complete the related challenges etc., theorising with the community about what new characters would be added and so on. Tropy’s ghost, then there’s Nitros Oxide, Emperor Velo and the developer ghosts all waiting beyond that. You’ve gotta hit a certain time to unlock N. The other modes are fun too, but yeah, the time trials is where you learn the techniques and shortcuts and get the most rewarding experience imo. The campaign isn’t particularly engaging, and the AI difficulty spikes very abruptly from easy -> medium -> hard. I felt little impetus to play for the first few hours.įor me the time trials are the heart and soul of the game. I never played the original, and when I first tried it out after being used to Mario Kart, I found CTR extremely difficult and clunky. I have to say I haven’t played it since the final update, but I absolutely loved it. Transformed has probably the most imaginative tracks of the trio but it does have some issues, especially in the maps with airplane mode that tend to have some hitboxes that simply extend a bit too far and you end up hitting some invisible wall because of it, it doesn't happen in all the maps but it does feel weird (the reverse, where you can go through an object that seems solid also happens, notable in maps that go through a destruction process)īoth CTR and Transformed also have a lot of single player (MK8 just has cups) and I think Transformed wins over the release version of CTR, but the constant updates and new modes CTR has received post launch puts it above Transformed nowadays The old /r/patientgamers Essential Games Listīoth MK8 and CTR have notably more content than Transformed, mechanically I'd say CTR > Transformed > MK8, good intermediate if you have gamer friends that find MK8 too easy but don't want to dedicate time learning CTR (it's not a terribly difficult game to learn, but it takes a couple hours until you really start feeling why people prefer it mechanically to MK8) Please use flair to display what games you’re currently playing, not a punch line, username, tag, URL, or signature.
